What to Do in Brindisi in the Evening: Nightlife and Entertainment

In short: Evenings in Brindisi follow a Mediterranean rhythm: an aperitivo around 7 pm in Via Conserva, on the seafront or in Piazza Mercato, dinner around 9 pm with fresh fish or local dishes in the trattorias of the centre, then a stroll along Corso Umberto I and Piazza Vittoria with an ice cream. In summer there are regattas, concerts and events on the harbour.

Evenings in Brindisi: A Truly Mediterranean Rhythm

Evenings in Brindisi follow a Mediterranean rhythm: aperitivo at 7, dinner at 9, a stroll late into the night. It isn't a city of wild clubbing, but it offers something far more precious: the authentic nightlife of an Apulian city, made of lively squares, great food and real people.

Aperitivo: Where to Go

Via Conserva

This is Brindisi's evening drawing room. The bars along the street start to fill up around 6:30 pm. A typical Brindisi aperitivo is a cocktail or local wine with snacks: hot pettole, taralli, olives, slices of focaccia and fried bites.

Corso Umberto I

The main street of the centre has several bars with tables outside. The atmosphere is that of the classic Italian evening stroll: families, couples, groups of friends, all enjoying the cool air.

Lungomare Regina Margherita

In summer, the bars on the seafront serve aperitivi with a view of the harbour. Sunset over the sea with a drink in your hand is one of the loveliest moments in Brindisi.

Piazza Mercato

In the morning it's alive with the market. In the evening it becomes a meeting place, with bars for an aperitivo and places to eat outdoors afterwards.

Under the Arcades

The area near the town hall is known for its arcades, and right here there are several bars that play music in the evening, where people drink together.

Dinner: Where to Eat in the Evening

Fish Restaurants

Brindisi is a seaside city and the typical dinner is based on fresh fish. The centre is full of restaurants specialising in fish: mussel soup, grilled octopus, mixed fried fish, spaghetti with seafood.

Traditional Trattorias in the Old Town

For a more traditional dinner (ciceri e tria, orecchiette, broad beans and chicory), the trattorias of the old town offer set menus at reasonable prices (15-25 euros for a full meal with wine).

Pizzerias

Brindisi has excellent pizzerias with wood-fired pizza. Focaccia (thick, soft, with tomatoes and olives) is a delicious alternative. The most typical, traditional version of focaccia is the puddica, which is also topped with capers and anchovies.

After Dinner: What to Do

The Evening Stroll

The passeggiata is an institution in southern Italy. After dinner, the whole city seems to come out onto the streets: Corso Umberto I, Piazza Vittoria, the seafront. People meet, chat, have an ice cream and stroll for a good hour.

Ice Cream and Sweets

The gelaterias in the centre stay open late. Apulian artisan gelato is excellent: prickly pear, almond and ricotta are certainly the most typical flavours.

Live Music and Bars

In summer, many venues hold live music nights: jazz, taranta, blues, pop. The harbour area often hosts pop-up events with DJ sets and open-air concerts.

Summer: Evening Events

From June to September Brindisi comes alive with cultural events:

  • Brindisi-Corfu Regatta: one of the city's most important events (besides the regatta, the seafront fills with concerts, stalls and evening shows).
  • Concerts and events on the seafront: all summer long there are music shows and cultural evenings in Piazza Duomo and on the harbour, with local and national artists
  • Brindisi-Vlorë Regatta: another much-loved sailing event, accompanied by cultural initiatives and entertainment in town.
  • Notte della Taranta (Melpignano, August): the biggest festival of traditional Apulian music, an hour from Brindisi, an event not to be missed
  • Brindisi's Patron Saints: Saint Lawrence and Saint Theodore. The most traditional event: processions, festive lights, concerts and fireworks over the harbour.
  • Music festivals and dawn or evening concerts: special events, often by the sea or in striking locations, such as piano concerts or live music at sunrise.
  • Cultural festivals and temporary exhibitions: art and photography exhibitions and cultural talks that bring historic palazzi and urban spaces to life.

Tips for an Evening in Brindisi

  • Safety: the centre of Brindisi is safe in the evening.
  • Booking: in summer (July-August) restaurants fill up. Book ahead, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings.
  • Opening hours: restaurants open for dinner around 7-7:30 pm and usually stay open until after midnight.
  • Clothing: summer evenings are warm, but there can be a sea breeze. A light jacket always comes in handy.
