The Most Beautiful Beaches near Brindisi

In short: The most beautiful beaches near Brindisi are north of the city: Cala Materdomini 5 km away, the former Lido Poste at 8 km, Apani at 15 km, loved by kitesurfers, and the Torre Guaceto nature reserve at 20 km, with shallow, clear water. In one to one and a half hours by car you reach the beaches of the Salento, such as Torre dell’Orso.

The Most Beautiful Beaches near Brindisi

The sea around Brindisi is part of the southern Adriatic, where the water is crystal clear, the seabed mostly sandy and the colours range from sky blue to emerald green. Here are the best beaches less than an hour away by car.

Torre Guaceto: The Beach in the Nature Reserve

Distance: 20 km north of Brindisi (25 min by car)

Torre Guaceto is a Site of Community Importance and a State Nature Reserve. That means the water is protected, the seabed is intact and there are no intrusive beach clubs. The beach is long and sandy, with low dunes and Mediterranean scrub behind it.

The water is shallow and clear, perfect for families with children. In the protected area you can snorkel and see posidonia seagrass, sea urchins and lots of colourful fish.

Apani: The Bay for Kitesurfers

Distance: 15 km north of Brindisi (17 min by car)

Apani is a lovely bay with fine sandy beaches alternating with rocky stretches. It's popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers for its steady wind. The water is crystal clear and the seabed slopes gently, great for swimming.

There are well-equipped beach clubs with sunbeds, umbrellas and bars, but also stretches of free beach.

Ex Lido Poste: White Beaches and Caribbean Water

Distance: 8 km north (15 min by car)

Once a beach club reserved for Post Office employees, it's now open to everyone, with wide stretches of free sand and direct access to the sea. The beach is simple and has no particular facilities, but that's exactly why it keeps an authentic, untouristy feel.

The seabed is generally shallow and sandy, suitable for anyone who wants a relaxed swim. On clear days the water is surprisingly clear even with a north wind (not something to take for granted on Adriatic beaches, which are usually very exposed to northerly winds).

Cala Materdomini: The City Beach

Distance: Sciaia area, Brindisi Nord, 5 km from the centre (10 min by car)

This is the beach closest to the centre of Brindisi. River sand, clean water, free entry. The area is very easy to reach and very convenient for half a day at the sea.

Salento Beaches (further away, but not to be missed)

If you're willing to drive a little further (1-1.5 hours), the beaches of the Salento are among the most beautiful in the Mediterranean:

  • Torre dell'Orso (75 km): twin beaches with turquoise water and the famous "Due Sorelle" sea stacks
  • Baia dei Turchi (80 km): reached on foot through the scrub, crystal-clear water
  • Punta della Suina (95 km): pine woods right by the sea, white sand
  • Pescoluse (130 km): the "Maldives of the Salento"

Practical Tips for the Beaches

  • Getting there: your own car or a rental. Bus services to the beaches are limited. The Brindisi beaches can be reached with bus line 4.
  • High season: in July and August the beaches get crowded. Arrive before 10 am to find a spot.
  • Umbrella and sunbed: between 10 and 30 euros per person at a beach club. The free beach is always available but can be crowded.
  • Parking: in summer, car parks near the best beaches charge a fee (2-4 euros an hour). Consider parking further away and walking.
