Small and unassuming, the church of Sant'Anna is one of the oldest in Brindisi. A document of 1343 already mentions the place name "Sancta Anna", though that alone doesn't prove the church existed at the time.
The best evidence is inside: the frescoes date from the end of the thirteenth century and the first half of the fourteenth. They are reason enough to step in.
In 1694 a fire damaged the church, the nearby monastery and San Benedetto, and the building was probably reworked in the first half of the eighteenth century. Saint Anne is the patron saint of mothers.
