Santa Maria del Monte is a very old church: an official document of 1231 already mentions it.
Over the centuries it has come through earthquakes, periods of neglect, alterations and reductions in size, and on 7 November 1941 it was hit by bombs from Allied aircraft. What you see today is the result of work carried out after the 1950s.
