In the gardens of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II stands the marble statue dedicated to Virgil, by the Lombard artist Floriano Bodini. It was commissioned in 1981 for the two-thousandth anniversary of the poet's death and inaugurated on 27 March 1986.
In 1988 it was moved here. Bodini would have liked it in the nearby Piazzetta Dionisi, where according to tradition Virgil spent his last hours.
