In Piazza Duomo, two Gothic arches in carparo stone divided by a column of Greek marble: this is the Portico of the Knights Templar. Beneath it are two cross vaults with two-coloured ribs.
It isn't clear what it was for. It was probably the loggia of the medieval Archbishop's Palace, and in the sixteenth century it was the ground floor of the De Cateniano family's palazzo. The name comes from a Templar church that stood nearby: their ships left Brindisi for the Holy Land.
Today it is the entrance to the Ribezzo Museum and houses medieval finds, including some fine stone sarcophagi.
