Via Casimiro Archaeological Area

In Via Casimiro, at the foot of a building and behind a railing, is a small archaeological area that many people walk past without noticing. The remains date from the second century BC to the second century AD.

Two levels of excavation can be seen. At the top is an Imperial-era floor, damaged by plants and the weather; lower down, the Republican-era one, which probably belonged to houses demolished when the area was rebuilt. The scattered marble fragments belong to a large public building of the Imperial age.
