Church of Santa Teresa

Santa Teresa faces its namesake square with a restrained Baroque façade in carparo stone, with only a few stone features: niches, pinnacles, scrolls. It was built in 1670 thanks to the priest Francesco Monetta and housed the Teresian convent.

Its later history is eventful: after the convent was suppressed it was used by the military from 1807, and after restoration in the 1980s it became the home of the State Archive.

Inside, on either side of the high altar, are two paintings by Diego Bianchi. In the first chapel on the right, look for the seventeenth-century Nativity: it is valuable also for the Salento costumes of the time painted in it.
