The Fontana dell'Impero, also called the Fountain of Victor Emmanuel III or Fontana Grassi, is a work from the early decades of the twentieth century, between rationalism and monumentalism. On the façade an inscription is dedicated to the king and to Mussolini, who established the province of Brindisi.
It was built to give dignity to the square above, where the houses of the working-class quarter of the Sciabiche once stood, and it ideally continues the line of the Roman walls. The water falls in a cascade, to fine effect.
A practical tip: in summer there's little shade, so it's best to come early in the morning or towards evening.
