Palazzo De Marzo takes its name from the family that bought it as their home in the first half of the eighteenth century. At the time it was surrounded by three streets and a private garden; you can still recognise it by its portal with the raised archivolt.
It also had a splendid loggia on Via Maddalena, lost for good on 5 April 1946. That day, during a war veterans' riot, the demonstrators broke into the palazzo, which housed the tax offices, and set fire to the records: the blaze destroyed much of the building.
In the 1920s Clementina De Marzo had left it to the Church in Brindisi, for the new parish of Ave Maris Stella.
